Tegg's Nose is where Cheshire stops being flat. You start by the reservoirs above Langley, pick up the Gritstone Trail and climb hard through the trees, about 500 feet in under a mile. Then it's done, and the rest of the walk is a gentle wander along the top.

The view is the reason you come. West, the whole Cheshire Plain is laid out below you, Macclesfield first and Jodrell Bank on a clear day. East, Macclesfield Forest fills the valley and Shutlingsloe sticks up like a small Matterhorn.

The rock is Millstone Grit, laid down by tropical rivers when Britain sat near the equator, and people quarried it here from the 1500s until 1955. You walk past the old faces and some of the machinery they left behind. The whole hill is a country park now.
