From the Harrington Arms past a 15th century church and Tudor Gawsworth Hall, out to North Rode and back over the fields.

I parked near the Harrington Arms and walked up to St James' Church, built of ashlar sandstone with parts dating from 1430. Don't miss the 18th century gateposts with skulls and crossbones on them.
The path then goes through the Gawsworth Hall estate. The hall dates from 1480, replacing an earlier Norman house, and is a classic black and white Cheshire manor with pools in front of it. From there the route heads out over the fields to North Rode and loops back.
It's an easy seven miles in lovely, quiet country south of Macclesfield.
