From St Leonard's Church in Ipstones you run through the village, across the fields and down through the woods to the Caldon Canal in the Churnet Valley, following it to Consall, which I'd visited before on the run from Cheddleton.

The way home climbs the Devil's Staircase, which is as steep as it sounds, then crosses the fields back to the church. The Staffordshire Moorlands are a lovely area and there's plenty more to explore round Ipstones.
