Helsby Hill Circular Walk
A short climb through Harmers Wood and old sandstone quarries to the top of Helsby Hill, one of the best viewpoints in west Cheshire.

Helsby Hill packs a lot into a short walk. You start on Hill Road North beside Harmers Wood, where birch, oak and pine have grown up over old quarry workings, and climb steadily through the trees with bits of bare sandstone poking out as you go.
Then the trees thin out and the view opens up all at once: the Mersey, the refineries at Stanlow, the Wirral and the Welsh hills. The summit has an Iron Age hillfort on it, though you'd need a bit of imagination to see it now.
I had perfect golden light when I filmed this one. It's well worth timing for the end of the day.
