Great Budworth, near Northwich, is a picture postcard Cheshire village. You might recognise it: the BBC's War of the Worlds was filmed here, and so was Hinge and Bracket back in the 80s. Another reason to start here is the George and Dragon.
The route heads out through the Arley Hall estate and round to Pickmere Lake before coming back to the village. There's an alternative that avoids the lake if it's wet, making it eight and a half to nine miles.
