Between Macclesfield and Buxton, the ridge above the upper Goyt Valley forms the border between Cheshire and Derbyshire, with views over both and into Staffordshire.

From Errwood Reservoir you head up the hill to Pym Chair, then along the ridge over Cats Tor to Shining Tor, at 559 metres the highest point in Cheshire. The way back drops past the ruins of Errwood Hall, a Victorian mansion now lost in the rhododendrons.
