Lots of lovely field paths round Plumley, near Knutsford, taking in the Golden Pheasant pub and the little River Peover Eye.
The surprise was the history. Running through, it was obvious I was on old industrial land, and it turns out brine was found on the Holford estate around 1900 and a soda ash plant built. In 1915 Brunner Mond were asked by the government to build a calcium nitrate works here. Mixed with ammonia it made ammonium nitrate, which was badly needed for high explosives in the war.
It's peaceful countryside now. You'd never guess.
