A stunning limestone dale near Bakewell, with weirs, waterfalls and crystal clear pools. In winter, wear shorts and wade.

What an adventure. My advice if you go in winter: wear shorts and just wade through.

From Over Haddon, just south of Bakewell, you drop into Lathkill Dale and follow the river. The Lathkill is a winterbourne. It dries up in places in summer, but in December and January it's in full flow, with water rising from sink holes to make pools of crystal clear water.

It's a beautiful limestone valley, with weirs, waterfalls and a cave system that can only be explored when the river's low.
