Birchover is full of oddities. Rowtor Rocks, behind the Druid Inn, were carved into steps, seats and caves in the 17th century by the Reverend Thomas Eyre, who by all accounts was also a druid with an interest in witchcraft.
From there you pick up the Limestone Way, a path in use since at least Roman times, which I'd been on before at the other end in Cave Dale. Then you climb through the lovely estate village of Stanton in Peak and up onto Stanton Moor, with its Bronze Age Nine Ladies stone circle, before heading back.
