Chee Dale is a steep-sided limestone gorge on the River Wye in the White Peak, near Buxton. I'd planned to start at Millers Dale but the pay machine was broken, so I parked at Blackwell instead. I'd suggest the car park off the A6 near King Sterndale, a short walk from Blackwell Mill where you meet the river.

The path beside the river is rough, with rocks, tree roots and the famous stepping stones, so I walked a fair bit of it. It's definitely a summer route. In winter it'll be wet and the stepping stones can be under water.

The way back on the Monsal Trail, with its tunnels and viaducts, is easy going.
