A beautiful January morning: minus three, a hard frost and a clear blue sky.

The route goes through Black Brook nature reserve, then up onto the ridge at Ramshaw Rocks, where wind and rain have carved the gritstone into amazing shapes. The famous one is the Winking Man, a rock face with a hole for an eye that seems to wink as you drive past on the A53.

Only three miles but worth every one, especially at dawn.
