Wincle sits right on the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire, south of Macclesfield, in a quiet valley. It has a great pub, the Ship Inn, and the Wincle Brewery, with a sampling room and shop, which makes it a perfect place for a walk.
The route heads down the River Dane on a section of the Dane Valley Way, then climbs out and loops back over the hillside to Danebridge.
