From Waun y Llyn Country Park on Hope Mountain, just outside Wrexham, you get a panorama that runs from Snowdonia and Moel Famau right across Cheshire. On a clear day you can pick out Beeston Castle, Jodrell Bank, Helsby Hill, Ellesmere Port, the Runcorn bridge and on up the Mersey to Liverpool.
It's worth coming just to bimble round the top. I headed through the country park and down into the valley to the Bridge Inn, crossed the River Alyn and climbed back up, about six miles in all.
