Farndon, south of Chester, faces Holt across the River Dee, joined by a 14th century sandstone bridge that's also the border between England and Wales.

You follow the Dee down to the remains of Holt Castle, built in the late 1200s from sandstone quarried on the spot. I was coming back from injury so kept it to two and a quarter miles, but I show where the extra loop starts and ends, bringing it up to about five.
