Tattenhall sits south east of Chester, not far from Beeston Castle, and dates back to the 5th century. There's a lovely 16th century church, St Alban's, and a couple of pubs for the end of your walk.

If you need more incentive, the route passes the Ice Cream Farm, with more than 50 flavours of Cheshire ice cream in what claims to be the world's largest ice cream parlour.
