Erbistock and the River Dee

A hidden riverside village south of Wrexham, with a 17th century pub on the bank of the Dee where the ferry used to cross.

Head south from Wrexham towards Overton, turn down a little lane that doesn't seem to go anywhere, and you find Erbistock on the River Dee.

The Boat is a sandstone pub from the 1600s on the site of the old ferry crossing, and you can sit outside and watch the river slide by. I was smitten. It's a shame there's no ferry or footbridge now, as there are loads of paths on the far bank. I'll be back for those.

The route follows the river through the woods and fields on this side.
