Alderley Edge is the heart of Cheshire's Golden Triangle: a pretty village in stunning countryside close to Manchester, home to Premier League footballers, Coronation Street actors and, I'm told, a couple of members of New Order.
The route climbs onto the sandstone ridge, through the woods past old copper mine workings and viewpoints over the Cheshire Plain, and follows it out to Hare Hill before coming back. The Edge is full of legend too, from wizards to sleeping knights, which suits the woods perfectly.
