Styal is home to Quarry Bank, one of the best preserved cotton mills of the Industrial Revolution, now run by the National Trust along with the workers' village and the apprentice house.
From Styal the route follows the River Bollin through the woods of the Styal estate, with planes from Manchester Airport passing overhead, and on into Wilmslow before looping back. It's a beautiful stretch of river and a fascinating bit of history.
