An hour's drive through Stockport and Tameside brought me somewhere new: Uppermill, near Saddleworth Moor. It's a lovely village built on wool and cotton spinning during the Industrial Revolution, with the River Tame and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal both running through the valley.

The route follows the canal, then makes a good hard climb out of the valley for spectacular views down into Uppermill and up towards the ridge of Saddleworth Moor, before dropping back down.
