What a morning. The canal was frozen, everything sparkled with a hard frost, and the sun came up low and gorgeous.

This ten mile loop from Sandbach includes a path plenty of people don't know about: the Secret Salt Line, also called the Forgotten Salt Line, an old railway that once carried salt near Alsager and is now a quiet green path. The rest of the route uses fields, lanes and the Trent and Mersey towpath.
