A treat, this one, up the M6 to Cumbria. Grange-over-Sands sits on the north side of Morecambe Bay by the Kent estuary, just south of the Lake District. It took off when the railway arrived in 1857.
The views across the bay are spectacular: Silverdale, Carnforth, Morecambe, and on the horizon the big block of Heysham power station. You run down the promenade, along the front to Kents Bank and on to Cark.
The railway follows the coast, so the train back is easy.
