Frodsham Marshes are big, flat and wonderfully quiet. From Saltworks Farm you go under the M56 and follow the River Weaver out towards the estuary.

At Alder Lane you cut across to the landing stage on the Manchester Ship Canal. Left, you can trace the canal back towards Ellesmere Port; right is where the Weaver joins it, opposite Weston Point. Across the water are Rock Savage power station and the old ICI works at Weston, and if you look hard you can just make out the locks that let ships down into the Mersey.

Great for a walk or a run, and you'll hardly see a soul.
