From the shoppers' car park off Wharf Road in Biddulph you head up to the High Street and out of town, up past the Wicken Stones, a line of gritstone outcrops on the ridge, to Rock End.
From there you drop to Knypersley Pool, the reservoir in Greenway Bank Country Park, and come back through Knypersley and along the Biddulph Valley Way. A lovely route.
