A great one way route: 11 miles from Crosby, just north of Liverpool, up the coast to Formby, with the train back.
You start on Crosby beach with views over to the Port of Liverpool and walk among the 100 iron figures of Antony Gormley's Another Place, all staring out to sea. Then it's along the coast path and over the dunes to Hightown, where the stumps of a 4,000 year old submerged forest show at low tide, and on to Formby beach.
