Close to home, out through Alsager and over the border to Audley. You run over the fields towards Bignall End with Bignall Hill in view, then pick up the Audley Line, a disused railway, heading south to Halmer End.

Nearby is the memorial to the Minnie Pit disaster of 1918, one of the worst in the North Staffordshire coalfield. Bateswood nature reserve, on the site of a former colliery, is a huge area to explore, and Apedale and Silverdale are just to the east.
