Barlaston is a pretty village south of Stoke, and Wedgwood is the big presence here. In the 1930s Wedgwood bought Barlaston Hall and its land to build a new factory, because the old works at Etruria were sinking from coal mining subsidence.

The route goes through the Wedgwood estate (World of Wedgwood and the V&A collection are worth a stop) and loops back by the Trent and Mersey Canal to the Plume of Feathers, the pub owned by Neil Morrissey of Men Behaving Badly.
